Residential building in the old town
The project consists in the planning of a dwelling housealong the Skolas street.
The plot is considerable long and deep inside the block facing to open areas of the neighbouring gardens; on the main front along the Skolas street the new building relates itself on one side with an historical 5 stories building , on the south side with a 2 stories structure.
The urban situation and the functional program of the layout suggests to develope these multisory residential building as a set individual volumes reducing the scale of the whole building and dialogueing with the proportion of the historical buildings along the street and in the city centre; Three units are carved into the volume with a deep cut defining a transparency through the depth of the house from the entrance to the garden inside the block, shaping balconies and loggias on the upper floors, modelling the units in a series of individual houses. In the interior of the courtyard a forth house duplicates the south facing apartments generating an architectural complexity between the two facing volumes. The „cut“ in the volume other than defining the individuality of each house allowed to create in a simple geometry a big variety of unity with different dimension and typologies: small simple apartment, bigger flats with large balconies, maisonette/atelier unity on grond floor, as well as three different “penthouses” with large roof terraces; the concept allowed a big variety of flats, different kind of use of the interior space, living, living and working, even professional offices on the ground and first floor in order to give a new address to a variety of people, the “loft” character of each unit allowed flexible interior arrangement and very high space quality and give the architectural carachter either on the Street elevation as well as in the garden inside the block. The underground parking has 47 parking lots.
