Venezia Verde 20xx – Environmental-components for the future

Publication of the book by Veronika Howe with an introduction by Sergio Pascolo
Study about the environmentally sustainable city expansion of Venice

Venice, the Italian city by the lagoon, is one of the European cities that has been most affected by the climate change. By means of the competition-criteria of the “European Green Capital Awards” (EGCA), Veronica Howe has investigated possible processes for the environmentally friendly city-expansion. Hereby the greatest challenges of Venice are the integration of its mass-tourism and the emigration to the mainland. The dialogue between city council, residents and local businesses plays a significant role, in order to create the necessary transparency about the environmental consequences of the planned city expansions as well as establishing the base for future binding agreements. Additionally, new perspectives can be disclosed for the “eternally sinking city”. By means of the secured environmental development, new potential for the economy and the community life can be deployed.
