Connecting city and port is an opportunity to define new forms of living, working spaces and greenery, with the ultimate aim of helping to reverse the tourist monoculture by starting to bring houses for who want to live in Venice, spaces to work, study and play sports.

The meeting takes place within the framework of the International Baukultur Days Venice and is part of the “Building bridges – Brücken bauen” Symposium organized by Bundesstiftung Baukultur in cooperation with the German Center for Venetian Studies. The theme of the “bridge” was used in the Design Laboratory both for its physical connotation, as a real link, and to conduct a reflection on connecting and creating new relationships as a strategy for the design of an important part of the city. The goal of creating a bridge between city and port is combined with the idea of bridge between activities and different economies such as art, culture, between artificial and natural, between land and water, between historical and contemporary city, between past and future.
The projects in many different versions offer spaces for living in an innovative way, spaces for producing art and for handicraft production, with spaces for education and training, green spaces and leisure, entertainment and sport, commercial services and markets, cinemas and theaters. The area has also been interpreted as an innovative land-water exchange and arrival in Venice with the possibility of stopping and exchanging for all electric vehicles, bicycles and private boats.
The meeting intends to be an opportunity to discuss the many opportunities offered by the various projects both in terms of quality of housing and services for the adjacent district of S. Marta and as an address for a process of sustainable socio-economic development for the whole city
